Coming from Bà Rịa Vũng Tàu Province located in the Southeast of Vietnam, Ngô Viết Phú was to join the Bà Rịa Vũng Tàu youth team in 2006 before being promoted to the club's first team.  Although still a young player , Viết Phú became an established player within the team that was to win promotion to the National First-Class Soccer Tournament for the 2013 season.  Unfortunately, due to financial reasons the team was dissolved. After a brief period of unemployment and playing for local clubs,  Viết Phú was to join Bình Phước where he stayed until 2017-18.  It is from here that the young player's career starts to take off.  In 2018, at the age of 24, he was to join SHB Đà Nẵng making 11 appearances.  His debut coming on 1st July 2018 in a 3-3 home draw against Thanh Hóa FC coming on as a 90th minute substitute.  Also playing that day, but for Thanh Hóa, were Ngô Hoàng Thịnh and Bùi Tiến Dũng who are both now colleagues of Viết Phú at City.  Viết Phú's first full debut was against Becamex Bình Dương on 21st July 2018 with his first goal coming in the 45th minute of a 2-1 victory over Cần Thơ in Week 21 of the 2018 season.  Viết Phú made his final appearance for SHB Đà Nẵng against Viettel in a 3-5 defeat on 23rd October 2019 before joining City for the 2020 campaign.
