City lost their final friendly match going down 0-1 to Ulsan Hyundai of South Korea in a lively contested game.  The only goal coming via a deflected shot from Kim In-Sung in the 34th minute.  The original effort being well saved by the City keeper Thanh Thắng.  Unfortunately for Thắng, the ball came back off the bar and stuck the keeper on the back of the head before going in.  As per the previous friendly, Coach Chung Hae-soung chose to change the entire team at half time.  This gave returning striker Matias valuable playing time as he strives to re-gain match fitness after a long lay-off.

City's Starting XI was 1. Thanh Thắng, 2. Tùng Quốc, 20. Ngọc Thịnh, 12. Lê Đức Lương, 7. Ngọc Đức, 22. Viktor Prodell, 9. Hoàng Thịnh, 44. Papé Diakité, 10. Phi Sơn (C), 21. Công Phượng, 99. Amido Baldé

14th January 2020

City lost their latest friendly going down 0-1 to Jeonnam Dragons at the SVĐ Thống Nhất.  There were starts for Nguyễn Công Phượng, Papé Diakité and Viktor Prodell with Matias returning after his rehabilitation following last season's injury.  Second half appearance of latest signing Amido Baldé ensured that all new signings received a well needed run-out.  City looked well organised in the first half with Matias and Prodell quickly jelling together.  Papé Diakité looked solid in defence.  Trần Phi Sơn looked to be back to his best and quickly built an understanding with Công Phượng which bodes well for the coming season.  Matias needs game time which is to be understood.  The second period saw nine changes which unsettled the flow of the game and the team.  However, Amido Baldé looked quick and will certainly add something different to the squad as City challenge on 5 fronts in 2020.
