AFC Champions League Opponents Buriram U

It is being reported by various outlets that City's opponents in the 2nd Qualifying Round will be Buriram United of Thailand.  Buriram came within seconds of winning the Thai League until conceding a last minute goal against Chiang Mai FC and having the title snatched from them.  Buriram United play at the Chang Arena which has a capacity of 32,600.  Buriram Province neighbours Sa Kaeo, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, and Surin Provinces. To the southeast it borders Oddar Meancheay of Cambodia.  It is possible to fly to Buriram via Bangkok and the journey takes approximately 4-5 hours.  The winners of this tie will play the 3rd Placed Team from the Chinese Super League.  No date has been set but all expectations are that it will be toward the end of January/beginning of February 2020.

Final Score v Hà Nội FC.jpg

City's season ended in defeat at the SVĐ Hàng Đẫy losing 0-3 to recent Champions Hà Nội FC in the National Cup Semi Final.  However, the team can hold its head up as they were more than a match for the government's favourite team until the referee intervened with what can only be described as an absolutely disgraceful decision awarding the home side the opening goal despite two clear and obvious fouls.  You have to remember that this is the referee who awarded Quảng Nam FC (owned by the family who own Hà Nội FC) a penalty against City which all but handed the title to Hà Nội FC even though it was clearly outside the penalty area.
