Brief History

The early years of the twentieth century, especially those prior to the formation of the current club in 2016, can be summerised in one word if you are a Hải Phòng fan ... traumatic.  Although the club 'benefits' from some of the most verciforous of supporters, this fan support has not always been rewarded with results on the pitch or management off it.

- Following relegation the club is transferred to the ownership of the Department of Sports and Physical Education.

- 2006 - The club finds itself bouncing between Professional and First Class football.

- On October 10th, the club is renamed Hải Phòng Cement after ownership is transferred to the company.

- The club enjoys its most successful season to date finishing 3rd in the V-League.

- This year is famous for two, non-results, reasons.  First the club signed ex-Brazilian World Cup star Denílson.  Secondly it was to become the first club to register and therefore start an official supporters association.  On the pitch the club was to finish 7th.

- The club finished in its highest placing to date - 2nd.

- Club renamed as Vicem Hải Phòng.

- This season was to end in bizarre circumstances.  Although the club finish bottom of the league and were officially relegated, they were allowed to purchase Khatoco Khánh Hòa and therefore remained in V-League 1 for the 2013 season.

- After surviving relegation the previous year, the club were to finish 6th in V-League 1.

- This season was to prove to be the club's most successful in terms of silverware winning the Vietnamese National Cup.  It also saw the club change its name to the current one of Hải Phòng FC.

- The newly named club were to finish in 6th place.

- This season saw the club exceed all expectations and at the half way stage of th season were actually leading the table.  However, a shortage of playing power saw the team slip away in the title race before finally settling for second place behind Hà Nội FC.

Recent years have seen the club struggle with consistency and the 2019 season relegation a real threat until the final two weeks of the season.  It has also seen the club fined on several occasions for fan behaviour.
