City played the role of party poopers at the SVĐ Lạch Tray tonight spoiling outgoing Hải Phòng FC's manager Trương Việt Hoàng's leaving party by winning 2-1 in the final game of the 2019 Wake-Up 247 V-League 1 Season.
Probably with one eye on the upcoming Cup Semi-Final, Coach Chung Hae-soung rang the changes for City's final league game of the season making 8 changes in total. Only Tăng Tiến (4), Phi Sơn (10) and Văn Thanh (86) retaining their place in the starting XI.
Given the number of changes City could have been forgiven if they had started the game slowly or their play was dis-jointed. However, neither were to be the case as City came out of the traps flying.
With less than 30 seconds on the clock, City's Út Cường (56) robbed Doãn Ngọc Tân (15) of the ball and after rounding Văn Lợi (7) slid the ball home from the edge of the box to give City the perfect start to the game. Hải Phòng FC 0-1 HCMC FC
The goal however, far from knocking the stuffing out of the hosts seemed to snap them out of their slumber and after 7 minutes it was all square. A corner on City's left was floated toward the back post where Ngọc Mạnh (6) and Ngọc Thịnh (20) seemed to get in each others way allowing Văn Lợi (7) the opportunity to ghost in at the far post to head home giving Thanh Thắng (1) no chance in the City goal. Hải Phòng FC 1-1 HCMC FC
23 minutes in and City's lead was restored. A Phi Sơn (10) free kick received the faintest of touches from Văn Thành (99) giving the Hải Phòng stopper Văn Luân (36) no chance. Hải Phòng FC 1-2 HCMC FC
Văn Thành (99) celebrates restoring City's lead on 23 minutes with his team mates.
Both teams traded punches for the final 22 minutes of the half but there was to be no further goals. City were halfway to ending what had already been an excellent season on a high.
