Brief History

The current side was founded in 2001 and remodeled under the sponsorship of the Hoàng Anh Gia Lai Group (currently the second largest property development company in Vietnam).  Hoàng Anh Gia Lai FC are more commonly referred to simply as HAGL.


2007 The group signed an agreement with Arsenal FC of the English Premier League to open a Soccer Academy in Pleiku.  At the time of the agreement, HAGL were Arsenal FC's biggest partner in South East Asia for business purposes.

2003 HAGL won their first V League Championship.  A feat that was to be repeated in 2004.

2003 and 2004 HAGL also were to win the Vietnamese Super Cup.

The club has had a measure of continental success finishing 3rd in 2005 in the ASEAN Club Championship eventually losing 3-5 on penalties to Singaporean side Tampines Rovers.

How to get to SVĐ Pleiku

The distance between HCM and Pleiku is 516.3 km making the journey a relatively long one in terms of road transport.

Travel Options 

Plane - All the major airlines fly to Pleiku with flying time approximately 1 hour.  The airport is very close to the city centre being located only 6.2km away.  The journey should take no longer than 10 minutes and the city can be easily reached by either local bus (outside the airport) or by taxi.  Prices will vary between airlines and when you book.  

Train - There is no train station in Pleiku.  The closest station is in Quy Nhơn which is about 160km away from Pleiku making this option problematic.

Bus - The bus journey will take approximately 10-11 hours via the QL14.  There will be many bus companies that complete the journey between Miền Đông Bus Station, Bình Thạnh District, HCM and Đức Long Gia Lai Bus Station in Pleiku.  Cost wise expect to pay approximately đ240,000 each way.
