Hougang United Football Club was originally founded as Marine Castle United Football Club by a group of Newcastle United fans living in the Marine Parade area of the city. Upon successful entry into the Singapore League in 1998, the club struggled to find its feet, finishing in the bottom two for the next four seasons.  The club currently play their home games at the Jalan Besar Stadium which has a capacity of 6,000.

Brief History

1998 - 2002 Competing as Marine castle United Football Club, the side finishes 11th, 12, 11th and 11th in its first four years in existence.

2002 The club changes its name to Sengkang Marine Football Club and finished the season in 8th position.

2004 After finishing the 2003 season in 8th place, financial difficulties forced the club to leave the league.

2006 - 2010 After merging with Paya Lebar-Punggol Football Club, ironically the side who had replaced Sengkang Marine in 2004, the club was renamed Sengkang Punggol Football Club.  Finishing in 10th place in 2009.  

2007 The club finish as runners up in the League Cup.

2011 On January 1st, the club chairman, Mr. Bill Ng, announced the birth of a new club.  One that carries the current name of Hougang United.

2011 - 2017 and the new club were to finish no higher than 6th which they did so in 2016 & 2017.

2018 With the Singapore League being re-branded the Singapore Premier League, the club was to finish in 9th place.

2019 The club achieves its highest league position to date finishing the season in 3rd place on 43 points.
