After joining from Navibank Sài Gòn, Công Thành made his debut Xuân Thành Sài Gòn, on 14th May 2013 in the 1-2 defeat away to Hải Phòng F.C. Công Thành was to go on to make 14 appearances for the club in a season that was to ultimately see them go out of existence.
Following Xuân Thành, Thành played for a number teams such as An Giang, Thanh Hóa and Cần Thơ before joing City for the start of the 2019 season, making his debut away to Hoàng Anh Gia Lai on 1st March 2019 in the 2-1 success. It was here, at City, under the guidance of Chung Hae-seoung that Công Thành developed into one of the best left-backs in the country.
2019 was also to see Thành score his only two goals to date. The first came in the 68th minute away to Becamex Bình Dương in City’s 3-2 success. The second came in dramatic circumstances with Thành scoring a 97th minute equaliser against Hà Nội as City pushed the reigning champions all the way to the end of the 2019 season where City were to finish as runners-up..
Thành was considered one of the key elements for coach Chung’s strategy that led to the club's success. He was also called up to the national team last September to prepare for the World Cup 2022 qualifiers.
