After making 6 appearances for Đồng Tháp, Thanh Thắng made the switch to Hải Phòng FC via Kiên Giang.  Making his Hải Phòng FC debut on 28th July 2013 against Đồng Nai in a 4-0 victory.  Amongst the Hải Phòng substitutes that day was goalkeeper Đinh Xuân Việt who himself was to play for City between 2017 – 2018.

Thanh Thắng was to make 33 appearances*2 for Hải Phòng FC before securing another move.  This time is was to FLC Thanh Hóa where he was to make 56 appearances including one match in the 2018 AFC Cup away to Global Makarti from the Philippines.  Whilst at Thanh Hóa, Thanh Thắng was to vie for the number one shirt with raising star Bùi Tiến Dũng, who luck would have it, has recently joined City to renew the goalkeeping rivalry.

Nguyễn Thanh Thắng joined City prior to the start of the 2019 Season and quickly won the hearts of the City faithful with a collection of fine performances in the City goal.  His high level of consistency, coupled with a calm demeanour played a large part in City’s success during 2019.

*1 – Records only go back as far as 2012 so there are no records for his time spent at either Đồng Nai (?) or XM Fico Tây Ninh were he reportedly played twice.

*2 – 34 appearances if the 2015 Super Cup Match v Becamex Bình Dương is included
