After spending time in Hà Nội's youth team, Sầm Ngọc Đức was to get his debut for the first team on 2nd March 2013 when he was to come on as a 90th minute substitute for Nguyễn Quốc Long in a 2-0 home victory over a Hoàng Anh Gia Lai side which included one Lê Hoàng Thiên who was himself to join City (making 12 appearances in 2019). Ngọc Đức's full debut was to come on 11th August 2013 away to Sông Lam Nghệ An in a 0-0 away draw which included current City players Trần Phi Sơn and Ngô Hoàng Thịnh in the opponents team.
Making 80 appearances for the capital side, Ngọc Đức's final game on 5th November 2017 was ironically against the team he was to join and now play for - Ho Chi Minh City. Coming on as an 80th minutes substitute in a 4-0 victory for Hà Nội.
Sầm Ngọc Đức's City debut came in the opening game of the 2018 Season on 13th March away to FLC Thanh Hóa in a game which City were to lose 0-1. Facing Ngọc Đức that day were current City stars Bùi Tiến Dũng and Ngô Hoàng Thịnh. Sầm Ngọc Đức's first season in the red of City was one littered with disciplinary issues with the player receiving 6 yellow and 2 red cards in his 16 appearances.
However, under the leadership of new Coach Chung Hae-soung, the player has re-invented himself. Quickly becoming an important member of the City team.
