City battled both the elements and a competative SHB Đà Nẵng side to secure the three points at the SVĐ Bà Rịa and remain top of the League after Week 16 of the 2019 Wake-Up 247 V-League 1.

City twice came from behind to finally overcome SHB Đà Nẵng 3-2 to maintain their place as league leaders.  Prior to the match it was however the weather and not the game that was the source of interest.  A massive storm hit the Bà Rịa area about 90 minutes prior to kick off and threatened the game going ahead.  However, not even the storm could prevent City in the first ever V-League game to be staged at the SVĐ Bà Rịa.

Coach Chung Hae-soung once again shuffled his pack as the games come thick and fast.  In to the starting XI came Văn Thuận (14), Công Hiển (28) and Captain Kesley (77).

The game started in near torrential rain and on a pitch better suited to water polo than football.  It was definitely not the sort of pitch either City or the visitors like to play on as both teams prefer a pass and move approach.  Therefore it was of no surprise that both teams adopted the long ball approach as they tried to adapt to the conditions.

Five minutes in and City almost broke the deadlock.  A corner taken by Kesley (77)  on City's right was met by Công Thành (71) who was unable to direct his header goal wards.  Three minutes later and the visitors were to take the lead.  Utilising the chip and pass system, bypassing the pitch altogether.  Berdnado (23) beat Công Thành to the ball.  His knock on found Gassissou (27) all alone and he was able to beat City's stopper Thanh Thắng easily.  HCMC FC 0-1 SHB Đà Nẵng

City's response was quick and decisive.  A cross by Mansaray (80) from City's right was flapped at by Văn Biểu (1) in the visitor's goal.  The ball fortuitously falling perfectly to Công Hiển (28) who was able to turn the ball home despite the best efforts of the keeper to make amends.  HCMC FC 1-1 SHB Đà Nẵng

With twenty minutes on the clock the visitors were to stun City again.  Công Thành's (71) attempted clearance was perfect for the on rushing Văn Long (11) who was able to beat Hữu Tuấn (15) to the ball.  His low cross finding an unmarked Gassissou (27) on the edge of the City six-yard area.  His effort finding the back of the City net despite both Công Thành and keeper Thanh Thắng's best efforts.  HCMC FC 1-2 SHB Đà Nẵng

Considering the difficult conditions, both teams were dishing up a feast of action and the action showed no signs of relenting (just like the rain).   Văn Thuận's (14) free kick on 23 minutes found the head of Kesley who was unable to direct the ball towards the goal.

City were again to test the visitor's defence on 37 minutes.  A delightful ball by Hoàng Thịnh (9) found Mansaray (80).  Although the City man was able to create space his effort was wide of the mark.  City were definitely on the front foot and looking for the equaliser before the break.

And as the half entered the allotted added time City were to find the equaliser.  A good interchange between Mansaray and Văn Thuận on the edge of the box ended with the young American forward putting a low cross into the danger area.  The attempted clearance by Victor (99) presented the ball on a plate for the oncoming Kesley (77) who was able to slot the ball home.  HCMC FC 2-2 SHB Đà Nẵng

Half Time : Ho Chi Minh City FC 2-2 SHB Đà Nẵng

Coach Chung Hae-soung made his first change at the break replacing Công Thành (71) with Ngọc Đức (7) and it was City who started the second half brighter like a team with something to prove.  On 57 minutes the turn around was complete.  A long throw in by Văn Thuận was only partially cleared by Đà Nẵng's Công Nhật (22).  His header finding Hoàng Thịnh (9) whose shot was controlled by Mansaray who was able to turn and shoot low past a helpless Văn Biểu in the Đà Nẵng goal for his first goal in a City shirt.   HCMC FC 3-2 SHB Đà Nẵng

Four minutes later and it should have been 4-2.  A delightfully chipped cross by Công Hiển (28) was met by Mansaray who was unable to get above the ball and saw his effort fly over the bar.

Moments later and it was striking partner Ismaheel's turn to test the visitor's goal.  A long ball from Tùng Quốc (2) was misjudged by Tiến Dụng (16) in the Đà Nẵng defence allowing Ismaheel (24) to break free.  His effort trickling toward the goal and striking the upright allowing Nhật Tân (20) the opportunity to clear.

Quang Nam (18) was introduced in the 80th minute replacing a tiring Kesley who had put in a monumental shift on his return and the change was almost to bear fruit.  A long ball found Quang Nam who was able to race clear.  Unfortunately the City man was unable to beat Văn Biểu and his wait for a goal continues.

City easily saw out the remaining few minutes to record their tenth win of the season and with closest rivals Hà Nội FC again dropping points in a 1-1 draw at home to Hoàng Anh Gia Lai, City's lead at the top of the table was extended to 3 points.
