24th April 1956 the club was formed as the Hồng Quảng Youth Soccer Team.
1967 saw the merger of Hồng Quảng and Hải Ninh into one province named Quảng Ninh. The club was renamed to reflect this change as the Quảng Ninh Youth Football Team.
1990 and another name change. This time to Quảng Ninh Workers Football lub.
In 1991, upon completion of the 2nd National Club Championship the club was dissolved.
1994 saw the club reborn with the new name of Hạ Long Workers Football Team.
With the reorganisation of the Vietnamese Football System in 1996, a new team with the name Quảng Ninh Workers Club won the right to participate in the Second League where they competed until 1999.
The club, now called Than Quảng Ninh, was to ping-pong between the First League (now V-League 2) and the Third Tier until 2013 when it was promoted to V-League 1.
2016 was to become the club's finest year winning both the National Cup and the Vietnamese Super Cup as well as qualifying for the 2017 AFC Cup where they were to finish Second in Group H after games against Home United of Singapore, losing 4-5 at home and 2-3 away and Yadanarbon of Burma where they were to draw 1-1 at home whilst registering a fine 3-0 away victory.

How to Get to the SVĐ Cẩm Phả
The distance between HCM and Cẩm Phả is 1,868 km making the journey an extremely long one in terms of road or rail transport and is the furthest trip for HCMC fans.
Plane - All the major airlines fly to Vân Đồn International Airport which is the closest airport with flying time approximately 2 hours. The airport is approximately 20 km outside of the city centre taking about 35 minutes to complete. There are direct buses from the airport to the city centre which can be found outside of the arrivals hall. Taxis are readily available. Prices to Vân Đồn will vary between airlines and when you book.
Train - There are NO direct trains between HCM and Cẩm Phả. You will have to change in Hà Nội and Hải Phòng. Trains to Hà Nội take approximately 33-36 hours.. Trains leave from Sài Gòn Railway Station which is located in District 3 and arrive at Hà Nội Station which is at 120 Đường Lê Duẩn, Văn Miếu, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội. The journey takes approximately 33-36 hours so plan ahead if you decide to take this option. Ticket prices vary depending on train and accommodation option but expect to pay at least đ2,000,000 for a one-way ticket.

You will then need to catch a train to Hải Phòng. This journey takes approximately 3 hours. There are 3 trains to choose from :
HP1 Departs Hà Nội 06:00 Arrives Hải Phòng 08:22.
LP5 Departs Hà Nội 15:20 Arrives Hải Phòng 18:00.
LP7 Departs Hà Nội 18:15 Arrives Hải Phòng 21:05.
Train sevice HP1 is the best choice unless you are staying overnight in Hải Phòng. Single tickets will cost approximately USD13.
There are no trains between Hải Phòng and Cẩm Phả. You will have to complete the rest of the journey by road which is approximately 2 - 3 hours.

Bus - There are NO direct coach services between HCM and Cẩm Phả. You will need to catch a bus to Hạ Long. Then take a local bus to Cẩm Phả. Overall, the journey takes approximately 39 hours so is best avoided unless you like buses.
