Brief History

  • The club was founded in 1954 as an army sports club Câu lạc bộ Quân đội(Army Club).

  • In 1990, the club was renamed Thể Công. Parts of the club management also worked for the company Viettel, a telecommunications company from Vietnam.

  • In 2004, exactly 50 years after its foundation, the club finished V-League at 11th place (out of 12) and was relegated to the lower division. After that, the club changed its name to Thể Công Viettel F.C. after its new sponsor Viettel - the Army Electronics and Telecommunication Corporation.

  • On January 19, 2007, the club finally gained the right to be promoted back to V-League after beating Tây Ninh 5-3. Immediately thereafter, the official team name was reversed back to Thể Công.

  • In 2010, the club again switched its name back to Viettel FC, and voluntarily left the professional football set-up., deciding to focus on youth development, and start competing again in the amateur 4th tier of Vietnamese football.

  • In 2016 the club finally returned to professional football after winning promotion to the V.League 2

  • In 2018, Viettel F.C. won the V.League 2 championship and were promoted back to V.League 1.

How to Get to the SVĐ Hàng Đẫy

The distance between HCM and Hà Nội is 1,724 km making the journey an extremely long one in terms of road or rail transport.

Travel Options 

Plane - All the major airlines fly to Nội Bài International Airport Hà Nội with flying time approximately 1 hour and 55 minutes.  The airport is approximately 45 km outside of the city centre taking about 1 hour to complete.  There are direct buses from the airport to the city centre which can be found outside of the arrivals hall.  Prices to Nội Bài will vary between airlines and when you book.  

Train - There are four direct trains that you can take from HCM to Hà Nội.  Trains leave from Sài Gòn Railway Station which is located in District 3 and arrive at Hà Nội Station which is at 120 Đường Lê Duẩn, Văn Miếu, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.  The journey takes approximately 33-36 hours so plan ahead if you decide to take this option.  Ticket prices vary depending on train and accommodation option but expect to pay at least đ2,000,000 for a one-way ticket.

SE4   Depart HCM 19:45 Arrive Hà Nội 04:50 (Day 2)

SE6   Depart HCM 09:00 Arrive Hà Nội 19:58 (Next Day)

SE8   Depart HCM 06:00 Arrive Hà Nội 15:33 (Next Day)

Bus - The bus journey will take approximately 37 hours.  There is one company that runs one direct bus between HCM and Hà Nội called Hoang Long.  The bus departs Miền Đông Bus Station in Binh Thanh District, HCM and arrives at the Nước Ngầm Bus Station at Km So 8, Duong Giai Phong, Phuong Hoang Liet, Hà Nội.  Cost wise expect to pay approximately đ935,000 each way.
